Volodymyr Matus

Senior ML/AI Engineer at LITSLINK

“Understand the failure mode before choosing the fix.”

Volodymyr Matus is a Senior ML/AI Engineer at LITSLINK who builds machine learning systems meant to survive contact with real users. His focus is production AI: LLM applications, document processing, retrieval-augmented generation, and computer vision, along with the architecture and evaluation work that keeps them reliable after the demo is over.

He came to machine learning from the hardware side, starting in computer engineering and embedded programming, then spending two years as a system administrator before four years as an ML/AI engineer. That path shows in how he works: he wants to know how a model, a database, or an operating system actually behaves underneath before he trusts it in production.

His projects span unusually different corners of AI. For a healthcare client, he designed the document-processing, retrieval, and backend architecture for a platform that searches and summarizes patient-specific medical records, with hybrid retrieval, structured clinical-data extraction, and evidence-grounded answers traceable to their sources. As lead and sole ML engineer on an AI-generated text detection platform, he built a hybrid ensemble of transformer models and stylometric features and shipped it as a scalable FastAPI service. He has also built an autonomous lead generation agent that finds prospects, fills in contact forms, writes personalized outreach, and files everything into a CRM.

Clients bring Volodymyr the ambiguous projects: he turns a vague AI brief into a realistic architecture, explains trade-offs in plain language, and flags risks before they become expensive rework. Colleagues bring him the prototype that works in a demo and falls apart in real conditions. His method is to break the system into measurable parts, find the real point of failure, and redesign the smallest piece necessary rather than start over.

He also holds a strong opinion: most AI problems do not need another agent. A deterministic workflow with one carefully constrained model call is often more reliable, cheaper, and easier to maintain.

Asked to explain his job to a 10-year-old, he says he teaches computers to understand things that are hard to describe with simple rules, like documents, pictures, and human language, and then builds applications that put that understanding to work.

Outside of work, Volodymyr tinkers with computer hardware and self-hosted systems, experiments with game and simulation concepts, plays Dungeons & Dragons, and plays electric guitar.

Writes about: production LLM and RAG systems, document intelligence, AI agents and workflow automation, evaluating and debugging AI systems, and the practical limits and future of machine intelligence.

Tech stack: Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, pgvector, Docker, Hugging Face Transformers, OpenCV, LangChain.
